About This Place

Located in the heart of Honolulu, Masa's Cafeteria is a beloved local gem serving up hearty Hawaiian comfort food with a nostalgic twist. Specializing in classic hamburger restaurant fare alongside banquet hall services, Masa's brings a unique blend of casual dining and community gathering space to 910 Mapunapuna St.

Step inside, and you'll immediately feel wrapped in a warm embrace of island hospitality. The atmosphere is unpretentious yet inviting, with a vibrant energy that echoes the aloha spirit. This place is where locals come for their favorite comfort dishes, celebrations, and a genuine taste of home.

Masa’s menu is a treasure trove of flavorful choices that honor traditional Hawaiian and American diner staples. The standout dishes like the Beef Stew and Hamburger Steak envelop you in rich, savory flavors — imagine tender beef simmered to perfection, melting into your mouth alongside perfectly mashed potatoes or a steaming bowl of broth. The tripe stew offers a unique texture and hearty depth, while Lasagna Thursdays are an anticipated weekly indulgence, layering baked cheese, pasta, and sauce in a truly comforting way.

Monday’s Curry Burger special is another must-try, where a perfectly grilled burger is laced with fragrant, mildly spiced curry sauce — a taste combination that awakens your palate and satisfies cravings. The double cheeseburger, a classic staple, is simple but executed with quality and care that transcends expectations. Other favorites like the Laulau Beef Stew Combo showcase a fusion of local flavors and old-school American comfort, while the Saimin noodles and the Aloha Friday BBQ Ribs bring variety and island flair throughout the week.

The sandwich selection is equally satisfying, from the straightforward Hamburger and Cheeseburger options to tasty staples like the BLT and the Hot Pastrami Plate, offering both quick bites and hearty meals. Side orders, like crisp French fries, complement the entrees perfectly.

Many patrons have shared heartfelt experiences that truly capture Masa’s essence. Justin Sedeno praises it as “great place for some homecooked Hawaii comfort food,” reflecting the genuine, made-from-scratch appeal. For special occasions, Masa’s shines even brighter — as M Porter recounts, “My niece had her grad party here. Everyone had a blast. The food was really good and there is a stage for live music and TVs available for presentations. I would definitely recommend.” This dual function as a banquet hall expands Masa's role from a casual eatery to an essential community hub.

Benjamin Agdeppa emphasizes the consistency and variety, “Overall great food and also service for our events that we held there. Selection of foods available was also great.” Meanwhile, Greg Ell’s morning visit highlights the friendly, aloha-infused service that complements the delicious food, describing the experience as a “treat” with “service counter SPOT ON with GREAT and friendly service.” Each meal is thoughtfully prepared and packed, underscoring Masa’s attention to detail and customer care.

For those curious about daily specials, Ronin’s recommendation of the Wednesday corned beef with cabbage speaks volumes. The dish arrives generous and satisfying, a true comfort plate with two scoops of rice, mac salad, and tender corned beef rendered soft and moist — a testament to the kitchen’s mastery over classic Hawaiian homestyle dishes.

Masa’s Cafeteria is more than just a spot to grab a burger or stew; it’s a place where the flavors of Hawaii's past and present meet in every bite, where community and comfort fuse into a memorable dining and event experience. Whether you're craving a nostalgic meal or planning a special gathering, Masa’s delivers authenticity, aloha spirit, and soulful satisfaction with every visit.

For a truly island-style meal and a warm, inviting atmosphere that feels like home, Masa’s Cafeteria is a local treasure you’ll want to return to again and again.

Hardly get to eat here so this morning was a treat and I finally got to try breakfast here. Masa’s knocked it outta the park! Service counter (where I ordered my take out breakfast) was SPOT ON with GREAT and friendly service. Gal at the counter exuded Aloha “to da max”. Food was very thoughtfully packed like over never seen! (180 out from Rainbow’s Drive in in Kalihi where I had the worst customer experience from a Rainbow EVER. Anyway, props and thanks to Masa’s for the great experience! Oh- and breakfast was great and generously portioned!

Recommend by a friend...Wednesday special is a fresh corned beef with cabbage. Although I forgot to take a photo of the plate, I was impressed. The plate had two scoops of rice, mac salad, and a hefty portion of corned beef and cabbage. Cabbage was soft with butter mixed in. The corned beef was pretty soft, fat was rendered down and moist overall. I highly recommend. Small suggestion to the restaurant, cut against the grain of the meat will allow it to be more tender and easy to chew. My coworker mentioned the andagi and pork cutlet was a bit dry. Service was friendly and was helpful. The atmosphere was good, very standard local drive inn like place. Nothing special. Photos show the outside/inside and the menu on Wednesday as of Nov 6, 2024. I forgot to mention, the price to amount of food is pretty reasonable, however their website price is wrong. Due to inflation ask them for the correct price.
